Some of these bowls are my own designs but many are based on traditional quilt-block patterns, each with its own descriptive name, such as 'Card Trick', 'Christmas Geese', 'Maple Leaf', 'Spiderweb Star', 'Whirling Pinwheel', and others.

Each piece has a unique visual identity and reflects a focus on design, colour and intricate detail. Marks are made on the surface, incised and impressed into the clay to give a more interesting, textural finish. The bowls are embellished with my own hand-made ceramic buttons, which are either applied during the wet-clay stage, but more often attached to the finished bowl with embroidery thread, thus combining elements from real textiles with their ceramic counterpart and lending the piece a mixed-media, tactile quality.

The subdued tones of traditional ceramics will not be found here! The colours are bright, cheerful and used in combinations that are often unexpected but always beautiful.
